Practicing Gratitude
What might happen if you were to devote the next three days to listening and looking for the acknowledgments and serendipitous gifts that seem to be aimed in your direction? What if you were to accept them with nothing more than a simple thank you"? Here are some of the experiences you might notice: - The thank-you's of bus drivers
- The admiring looks of your children
- The comment of a coworker, a client, a student, a customer
- A stray dog following you home
- An obliging motorist who stops to let you through the traffic
- A wink, a whistle, a second look
- An acquaintance remembering your name
- A letter from home
- A phone call from a friend
- A hug and a kiss
- A discount, a bargain, a quarter in the soft-drink machine
- A grateful waitperson
- Your newspaper left in a plastic bag on a rainy day
- A luncheon date
- A sunset more dramatic than any you can remember
- A cool evening; a warm fire; a feeling of wellbeing . . .
Why not try and make up your own list? You may even find that you have written a poem.
