Wellness and Sexuality

Having taken this look at some of the challenges and difficult issues involved in sexuality today, let's now consider what the Wellness Energy System has to offer. For those who are sexually troubled, this approach offers some suggestions for dealing with the problems, as well as encouragement for seeking assistance from reputable counselors or therapists. For those who want to enhance the role that sex plays in their lives, this approach supplies some guidelines. In both cases, the key word is integration.Well-sex is the term we've chosen to describe what we think is an integrated approach to sexuality - one that considers the needs of the body, mind, and spirit of yourself and your partner(s). The term healthy sexuality or sexual health has been used by others for a somewhat similar orientation. Yet, because the word health (and, to a lesser extent, well) may imply that there is one, natural, good, wholesome sexuality that is medically approved, we urge you to approach all such terms with caution. These designations can be misused to convey disapproval of specific behaviors. Any researchers or authors (including us), as human beings and products of their cultural upbringing and their personal beliefs, are bound to have their own social norms and ideas about sex. These will be reflected in their treatment of the subject, despite their best attempts to remain objective.

Sexual ideas and norms, like health norms, emerge from many sources, including customs, science, medicine, spirituality, and experience. We assume that no single definition of sexual health or wellness will satisfy everyone or represent the diversity of sexual behaviors and attitudes in this culture today, no less in others around the world.

If you want an example of integrated sexuality as we apply the term here, just look at a baby. The infant's body is fully alive; every cell is dancing. If we could capture this energy in motion on film, we would see rivers of energy sparkling all over and swirling all around. The body would appear as a sea of light. The child responds with pleasure to the stroking of its fingers and toes. Here is a clear, unblocked channel. Sexual energy flows throughout every part, head to toe.
