Stress Management

Giving attention to the neglected half of our being/brain means greater wellness for the whole. People from a diverse range of backgrounds are becoming aware of this fact. When American businesses realized that worker productivity could be increased through stress-management techniques, programs teaching these techniques began springing up everywhere. Some of these methods of stress-management require people to do seemingly non-rational things, such as repeating a meaningless sound, which has the effect of quieting the thinking" brain. This relaxation spills over into the whole body and can open up previously untapped creative potential. Thus, top-level executives are signing up for workshops in which they meditate and exercise their way to new and livelier ideas.

Through neurofeedback training, people are learning that lowering blood pressure may be as simple as imagining vapors rising from a sun-warmed lake. Migraine headaches can be relieved when the subject creates a mental picture of heat flowing into the fingertips.
