No Fascism, Please
I'm sometimes alarmed by a kind of neofascism that I see in the wellness and alternative/complementary/integrative medicine movements. Covert or overt pressure is applied to get people to adhere to a particular lifestyle or dogma. There are nutrition nuts" who want everyone to take high doses of a particular supplement or go on a certain diet. There are runners who want to make marathoners out of everyone. There are meditators who want everyone to meditate exactly as they do. Health becomes equated with a certain set of behaviors or practices, and pressure is applied to make people conform to the group norm.
While I want to get my message across, I do not want to be looked on as the expert dictating the one true way; I do not want to become part of the neofascism. The wellness paradigm calls for options, individuality, and choices freely made. - John
