A Regular Exercise Program
Keeping to a regular program of exercise is a statement of personal power. It says that you are in control of your own life; that you have endurance, strength, and flexibility. You witness yourself as the chooser, the mover, the changer. Youare doing it! What you do in your body, you can do in your work, your relationships, your dreams, your world at large.
The moving body is the body releasing stress, letting go of pent-up emotions, and unblocking channels for energy. In the section on breathing, we noted that the breath is the life force. Encouraging fuller breathing through exercise is one of the most dynamic ways of increasing overall vitality.
Time spent in exercising, moreover, is time away from your books, your budgets, and your boss. It is time for your body. Time for a break. As you allow the busy, problem-solving brain a chance to take a backseat, you give an opportunity for the sensual, creative brain to direct you for a while. Many runners testify to the inspiration that often occurs as they exercise. The change of pace that movement brings can refresh you. Back at work, you are better able to address the challenges of the task at hand.
Pride in the appreciation of a job well done; happiness at being alive; the chance to release frustrations; inspiration, clear thinking - these are the powers that heal. These are the joys of high-level wellness.
