Mind Food

Most would agree that what goes into the mouth will affect overall health and wellbeing. Yet few seem to understand that what goes into the mind affects what comes out of the mind. Mental nutrition is every bit as important as oral nutrition. We are repulsed by rotten, moldy food, stagnant air, and polluted water, yet tolerate a good deal of rotten, stagnant, and polluted impressions that leave us with distorted or stagnant thinking. The images and energies that fill our minds affect our physical bodies, influence the people around us, and move the world at large.

Have you ever paused to examine the many thoughts that pass through your mind during a given period of time? Typically, this kind of observation gets quickly short-circuited because instead of simply witnessing our thinking, we start reacting to our thinking and soon have to deal with feelings of insecurity or an upset stomach. Instead of simply observing the events of some mental scenario as it passes through our mind, we identify with it as if it were real. We actually get up on the stage in our own minds and start interacting with the other mental characters in our internal play, mistaking our fantasy for reality.
